Community Service

Community Service at St. Mary’s
At St. Mary’s, service is more than a requirement; it is a daily expression of faith, compassion, and community. Our students are encouraged to use their time and talents to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, both locally and globally. From the earliest grades, students are taught the importance of empathy, stewardship, and social responsibility.
Each month, the entire student body participates in Saints in Action Outreach Projects, which are designed to meet real needs in our broader community. These projects span the entire school year and include collecting pajamas, books, school supplies, coats, shoes, canned goods, and baby layette items. Monetary collections have supported humanitarian causes such as Maryland Veterans, Winter Relief efforts through our parish, and our Green School environmental initiatives.
SAINTS Project
In Middle School, students take a more active leadership role in service through the “Supporting All In Need Through Service” (SAINTS) Project.  This initiative invites students to identify a community need, organize a meaningful response—such as a donation drive or fundraising campaign—and reflect on the impact of their efforts.
The SAINTS Project empowers students to lead with compassion while developing key skills in planning, organization, communication, and ethical decision-making. Whether coordinating collections, raising awareness, or working directly with service partners, students take ownership of their outreach and see firsthand the value of servant leadership.
By participating in service throughout their time at St. Mary’s, students grow into compassionate leaders with a lifelong commitment to helping others. Service at St. Mary’s is not a single event; it is a habit of heart that shapes our Saints each and every day.
